Chevalier-Montrachet sits just above and alongside Montrachet, yet its character is distinctly its own. Unlike Montrachet, which straddles two villages, Chevalier lies entirely within Puligny. Its higher elevation, steeper slope, and soil rich in chalk and stones contribute to wines of remarkable finesse, elegance, and minerality. Where Montrachet is richer, rounder, and more opulent, Chevalier-Montrachet offers a more refined, harmonious expression, defined by purity and precision.
No name is more synonymous with Chevalier-Montrachet than Domaine Leflaive. The Leflaive family’s roots in Burgundy date back to 1717, but it was Joseph Leflaive (1870–1953) who put the Domaine on the map. His sons, Vincent and Jo, carried the legacy forward, with Vincent crafting some of the most revered White Burgundies of the 1970s. Leadership then passed to Olivier and Anne-Claude, with Anne-Claude becoming a trailblazer in biodynamic viticulture when she took full control in 1994. Since her passing in 2015, her cousin, Brice de la Morandière has taken the reins.
Domaine Leflaive remains the standard-bearer for Chevalier-Montrachet, producing wines of power, grace, and extraordinary longevity. This exceptional vertical, featuring all vintages from 1986 to 2012, offers a rare opportunity to experience the evolution of one of Burgundy’s greatest white wines.
