Aromas of creamy oak, mocha and hazelnut are intense and supple on the palate, joining a mix of currant, black cherry and plummy Cabernet fruit. The opaque purple-colored 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon offers a spectacular, exotic bouquet of Peking duck skins, blackberry and cassis liqueur, roasted herbs, and burning charcoal. It is phenomenally intense, with record levels of dry extract and glycerin. This hedonistic blockbuster is crammed with jammy fruits nicely buttressed and framed by adequate acidity and tannin. Very dark ruby color. Slightly sauvage aromas of boysenberry, minerals, smoke and toffee. Like liquid velvet on the palate, with extraordinary sweetness and brightness. A huge wine, with remarkable depth of flavor; fruit coats the entire mouth. Finishes extremely long, with thoroughly suave tannins buried in fruit. - VM
